More Than One Lakh Students Enrol For Govt NEET, JEE Coaching in Tamil Nadu

More than one lakh students studying in classes XI and XII in government and government-aided schools in Tamil Nadu have enrolled for free coaching for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Exam (JEE).Students are being given tests daily under the new coaching programme. A state level team of teachers prepare the questions for the tests. The tests are conducted after school hours.“While 46,216 students have enrolled for NEET coaching, 29,279 have enrolled for JEE coaching from classes XI and XII. As many as 31,730 students have enrolled for both JEE and NEET coaching,” school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi told reporters here on Tuesday.Last year, around 13,000 students from government schools appeared for the NEET. Of them, 3982 (31%) of them have qualified in the exam. However, only Class XII students participated in the coaching classes.This year, the school education department opted for a test series to prepare students from both Class XI and XII for the competitive exams. Each student will write at least 20 tests in a subject.“Every day they will solve a minimum of 15 questions in a subject. These tests will also carry negative marking to prepare them for the competitive exams,” said Thamaraikannan, a teacher part of the state level academic support group.The group prepares the question booklets and sends them to the districts. Schools will distribute these question papers prior to the tests.“They will also get answers with solutions every week. The final test will be a consolidated test and there will be doubt clearing sessions for students as well,” he added. NEET aspirants will attempt at least 60 questions a week while JEE aspirants will attempt 45 questions a week.The coaching and test series will go on till February 28 next year. All interested students can attend these coaching classes. Officials said the tests would be helpful to students appearing for board exams as well.

Around 46,216 students have enrolled for NEET coaching, while 29,279 have enrolled for JEE coaching. Additionally, 31,730 students have enrolled for both NEET and JEE coaching. Last year, government schoolteachers provided coaching to Class XII students, but this year the education department has opted for a test series approach with at least 20 tests per subject
